More Details Add to Calendar Saturday, January 249:00am – 5:30pm Key Battery Minerals: Unlocking Metallurgical Innovations & Insights Meeting Room 18 Short Courses Presented by: SGS Metallurgical testwork is a cornerstone of risk mitigation throughout the entire project life cycle. As the world has embraced advancing decarbonization and climate change targets, critical minerals are more vital in the move to electromobility, energy storage, defense and hi-tech applications than ever before.  When projects evolve, metallurgical testing provides critical data on the behavior of ore and mineral resources, guiding process design, de risking technical challenges, and supporting investment decisions. This workshop will review the key metallurgical test programs required for critical minerals including lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite and REEs at different stages of a mining project, highlighting the core unit operations typically evaluated in feasibility studies. With over 80 years of experience, SGS delivers bankable metallurgical expertise across the mining life cycle, from bench scale testing and pilot trials to process audits, modeling, due diligence reviews, and risk assessments. Our experts continue to innovate. We have grown our capabilities in critical minerals to lead the market in project development for critical minerals. As we continue to work closely with our clients, our deep understanding of metallurgical testwork, pilot plant testing and process development has allowed us to collaborate with industry stakeholders to build long-term solutions in the race to net-zero. Through practical case studies from Canada and around the world, this short course will illustrate how metallurgical data and insights shape process design, define engineering criteria, and support sustainable, value driven project development. The session will also focus on market trends, pricing, exploration trends and other drivers for each commodity covered. Presented by: Mineralium Research & Advisory Gain the essential knowledge you need to make informed decisions in today’s fast-changing world. This course explores the fundamentals of economic geology and mineral economics, with increased attention on critical raw materials essential for the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, national defense, and the economic well-being of industrialized nations. It also examines constraints on supply chain security, as well as key concepts of sustainability and the circular economy. This is achieved by integrating information on mineral markets (tonnage and unit price), by considering geological, mineralogical, and metallurgical limitations on resource availability. The analysis also considers economies of scale and the impacts of companion metal extraction (smelter credits versus penalties). Shifts in supply and demand, technological innovations, commercialization factors, material substitution, and social and environmental constraints are illustrated through relevant examples. Intended audience: decision-makers from the mineral industry, government, First nation communities, and students in mineral resource–related fields. Geophysical tools covered will include Gravity, Magnetics, Muons, Direct Current Resistivity (DC), Induced Polarization (IP), Electromagnetics and Seismic. Each lecture will follow the framework provided in the introduction to provide a complete review of the technique from initial selection to synthesis with other data sets. Key case studies will highlight real world examples, and the course will end with a panel discussion highlighting what the future for these various techniques may look like.  Ample time will be allotted for discussion and questions. The course aims to provide exploration geologists with; 1) the knowledge needed to select the appropriate geophysical tool for a variety of exploration questions, 2) the understanding of the role of service providers, and 3) the basics of integrating that data back into their workflows.
